Sleeps 2 to 10 people in 5 bedrooms. Dramatic seaviews. 2 Dogs welcome. Wifi.
Thatchways is the perfect seaside holiday house, sitting high up on the hillside overlooking Crackington Haven. It has spectacular views across the coast and is only 100m from the fabulous beach.
This 1930’s property is perfect for those who want to escape and rediscover a good old fashioned ‘Swallows and Amazons’ beach holiday. There are reduced rates for smaller groups. Please contact the Office for details.
Thatchways provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for ten people although it is also ideal for smaller groups. There are five bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan living/dining room with an attractive open fire, a utility room and a large kitchen.
The kitchen is particularly quirky with its vintage Lino flooring and fabulous Rayburn. It is extremely well equipped with dishwasher, microwave, electric hob and Rayburn! There is a washing machine in the adjoining utility room.
The large and homely sitting room has oak floors, an old pine table, two large comfy sofas, the odd bit of flotsam art, rugs and a deep slate hearth. A wonderfully sociable area. Throw the logs on the fire and you won’t want to go anywhere! There is also a large table by the bay window and from here you can sit and admire the stunning views out over the sea.
Downstairs there is a double bedroom which leads into a charming bunk room. There is also a separate shower room and WC. Heading up the wonderful old creaking wooden staircase to the upstairs landing there is a spacious double bedroom with a pretty iron bedstead, a second double bedroom and a third bedroom with 2 singles – all have amazing seaviews. Upstairs is a family bathroom with bath and shower above, plus a separate WC.
Thatchways has a charm of its own be it summer or winter. The roaring fire & full central heating create a truly cosy atmosphere and the owner’s collection of pictures and local photographs create a home-from-home feel. It is full of loved items typical of a seaside retreat, whilst the views from the garden seat across Crackington Haven and way out to seas make it a very special property.
Full of character and charm Thatchways provides every comfort for the holiday maker who doesn’t want a run of the mill, everyday property to stay in. It really does offer the perfect combination of peace and quiet with no television to disturb you (although for those who don’t want a complete cut-off there is internet access).
Crackington Haven is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was once a small harbour importing coal and limestone and it has managed to escape any development and is now a small unspoiled, secret, cove.
When the conditions are right it is a great surfing spot and during the summer holiday weeks two life guards are on duty from 10am to 6pm each day. In the spring the cliffs are covered in heather and it is a wonderful place to see the wild flowers and hear the birdsong.
The gently sloping beach is perfect for exploring or for relaxing and, although pebbly when the tide is in, there is plenty of sand for building castles when the tide is out. Crackington Haven really is a special place and perfect for a family holiday away from the crowds.
For convenience there is a cafe in the village across the road from the beach serving lovely local food, including homemade pasties, cream teas and cakes, and the ever popular ice creams. During the summer months it sells beach essentials, wet suits, body boards and also rents wet suits. The family pub, The Coombe Barton Inn, serves delicious food and has a wonderful terrace to watch the sun going down over the bay.
The area has many walks on the doorstop, woodland and coastal, to enjoy breathtaking scenery and wildlife, including the South West Coastal Path. A particular highlight is the walk up to Pencarrow Point and climb up to Cornwall’s highest cliff at 735 feet.

“Old fashioned charm; felt like a real family home. We loved the ‘step back in time’ feeling of this quirky house and loved the fact that nothing was ‘staged’ like some anonymous holiday house, a very special house, thank you.”
“Loved the house, it’s position and Crackington Haven. Stayed at Old Cottage last year. Will be back again we hope.”
