This is the cutest thatched cottage ever. Such a fabulous location- in a peaceful and pretty village only 5 mins walk from the shop, cafe and pub. 5 minute drive to the beach at Mawgan Porth, or you can walk in 40 mins. Everything is new, (we were the first guests) high quality and tasteful- a lot of thought has gone into making it so homely. The beds were super comfortable and it was very quiet at night. Bags of hot water and good shower pressure, plus very well equipped kitchen. We had breakfast on the sunny terrace then ate in the dining room before settling into the cosy living room in the evening. The dog loved the securely gated garden too! We will definitely be back next year as there is so much to see and do in the area. Thanks to owner Kate for creating such a peaceful haven and letting us stay.
What we love about the area...
Old Lanvean Cottage is situated just a few minutes from the centre of the picturesque North Cornwall village of St. Mawgan, which has some lovely places to eat, including the St. Mawgan Tea Room, which does a memorable traditional Cornish cream tea, or try Scott & Babs for a tasty pizza or an evening drink (you will need to book early and in advance). For a hearty sandwich, try Hawkeye’s Cafe.
Mawgan Porth beach is a short 5 minute drive away, and is popular with visitors due to its sheltered westerly outlook, wide sandy beach, and favourable surfing conditions.
Padstow has become one of the UK’s premier destinations for foodies, and it’s easy to see why. You have to try Rick Steins Café, with its ever-changing menu of seasonal fish. For a hearty breakfast, why not try Ben’s Crib Box Café or if you fancy somewhere different, Bin Two on the South Quay is the perfect place to watch the world go by, and it’s dog friendly too. If Italian is your cuisine of choice, Embers Wood Fired Pizza in Market Place could be the place to visit. Other restaurants worth trying include Green’s Of Padstow, Rafferty’s Café & Wine Bar and Prawn on the Lawn.
The South West Coastal Path offers over 630 miles of stunning scenery, but you don’t have to walk it all! There are dozens of circular walks that start within a few miles of Woodlands. There are many challenging golf courses within reasonable driving distance too, including Newquay Golf Club, St. Enodoc Golf Club and the courses at Holywell Bay.
