Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms. Beach Front Location. WiFi.
Penkenna Beach Barn boasts the most stunning beach-front location in the idyllic Crackington Haven. This former stone cattle shed has been beautifully transformed into a wonderful holiday retreat, whilst retaining all the charm one would expect from a building of this style. Enjoy the open-plan ground floor adorned with white beamed ceilings, solid wood surrounds, and rustic stone tiled flooring – plus a Pither smokeless fuel burner for those chilly evenings. The natural beauty of this character building shines through this light and airy space. With uninterrupted views out to sea, sitting right on the edge of the beach, the barn is the perfect coastal retreat.
Penkenna Beach Barn sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms and has the added luxury of underfloor heating. The bedrooms consist of one child’s room with 2 single beds, one room with a double bed and a master bedroom with a king size bed. There is a traditional family bathroom and a shower room.
The open plan area which includes the sitting room, kitchen and dining room, has a nautical theme throughout which reflects the closeness of the sea. There is a mezzanine floor which is a quiet area for watching TV or a DVD. The kitchen is equipped with a tumble dryer, washing machine and fridge/freezer.
The garden has a beautifully restored stone wall around it but there is a steep drop to one side onto the beach. The large cobbled area is a wonderful spot for alfresco dining and enjoying the ever-changing coastal scene.
Crackington Haven is located on the north coast in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It was once a small harbour importing coal and limestone and it has managed to escape any development and is now a small unspoiled, secret, cove.
When the conditions are right it is a great surfing spot and during the summer holiday weeks two life guards are on duty from 10am to 6pm each day. In the spring the cliffs are covered in heather and it is a wonderful place to see the wild flowers and hear the birdsong.
The gently sloping beach is perfect for exploring, or for relaxing, and, although pebbly when the tide is in, there is plenty of sand for building castles when the tide is out. Crackington Haven really is a special place perfect for a family holiday away from the crowds.
There are two popular cafes, The Haven Beach Shop & Café and The Cabin Café that sit across the road from the beach, both serving lovely local food – including homemade pasties, cream teas and cakes, and delicious Cornish ice creams. During the holiday months they sell all the beach essentials, wet suits, body boards – and also rent wet suits. The family pub, The Coombe Barton Inn, serves wholesome, tasty plates of food and has a wonderful terrace to watch the sun going down over the bay.
The barn has books and leaflets with plenty of suggestions for days out locally and what to do in the immediate area, including local beaches and walks. A highlight is the wooded valley walk inland from the back of the house returning by the cliff path, enjoying breath-taking scenery and wildlife. Or, take a walk up Penkenna, Cornwall’s highest cliff at 735 feet. Try to make time to discover the inspiring parish of St Gennys’ ancient churches, farms, historical sites, buildings and tales of shipwrecks.
