Polzeath Beach

Located only 7 minutes drive from Trevanger Cottage is Polzeath Beach, a renowned surfing destination.

Polzeath is a magnificent stretch of golden sand between Pentire Head to the north and Highcliff to the west. This wonderful surfing destinations is a haven for surfers, body-boarders, paddle-boarders and beach lovers alike. With it’s Blue Flag, the beach is very popular with bathers and bordered by rock-pools that entertain small children for hours. Although generally a safe beach, Polzeath can get large surf and rips, so care should be taken at all times, however, there are lifeguards on the beach during the daytime throughout the summer season.

Wetsuits and boards can be hired by the hour from a number of surf schools & shops on the beach and individual and group surf lessons can be booked to suit all abilities.

There is parking on the beach, and once there it’s definitely worth staying until sundown for the most breath-taking sunsets. Either pack a BBQ or picnic, or head to one of the many great beachside eateries for pizza, gastro-burgers or some fresh sea food. There is plenty of choice – Surfside (they also have a cool Rum Bar set up in the quarry behind), TJ’s Surf Cafe, The Sandbar, The Waterfront or the Cracking Crab. A short walk up the valley lies The Point at Polzeath with its golf course, restaurant and Bear Bar, offering incredible elevated views of the Atlantic Ocean.

For dog owners there is a seasonal dog ban on Polzeath beach from Easter day to 1st October.
